Hammersmith Borough Election 2010

Hammersmith & Fulham council went Tory in 2006 for the first time since 1968.
Last weeks local election coinciding with the General Election, turnout was expected to be up and could have affected the result. The borough is largely made up of 2 General Election constituencies, Fulham & Chelsea and Hammersmith, The former voted Tory comfortably, the second was thought it would swing from Labour to Tory but that didn't happen.

So what happened then with the locals, well the Tories keep control of the council down 2 councillors. But the council election points to how Bailey (C) lost the General Election vote.

All Fulham councillors are Tory, all Shepherds Bush are Labour as well as Hammersmith Broadway, with our own North End Rd going 2 1 to Tories. So there is a clear divide in the borough, with Fulham now in with Chelsea for the general election and Shepherds Bush now with Hammersmith wards it creates a very safe Tory seat and a very likely Labour seat for the borough.

Knock on the door this morning, it was someone calling on behalf of MP candidate at the next general election. The candidate is our current councillor (Shaun Bailey, C) which is a great introduction in on conversation for the canvassers, "Is there anything your councillor can do for you?"
