Knock on the door this morning, it was someone calling on behalf of MP candidate at the next general election. The candidate is our current councillor (Shaun Bailey, C) which is a great introduction in on conversation for the canvassers, "Is there anything your councillor can do for you?"

Let me know your thoughts on this

I mention safety on North End Rd, again, brought this up the last time they called. There are bus stops on either side of the road for the council estates in our area, but there is no safe road crossing near them, there are two traffic islands but neither are pelican crossings. And the nearest safe crossing is too far for parents with young kids, buggies or elderly people to walk. So everyone crosses traffic, left & right, I'm sure, but it could be safer.

The other issue is the lane sequence & merging as North End Rd crosses the A4, now I know the council don't have authority on the A4 but I would have thought they did on North End Rd. Coming from Hammersmith, there is two lanes at the intersection, on the other side of the A4 there is just one lane, this is not a safe situation. The second lane on the North side should be left hand turn only, onto the A4 and into London, leaving the right hand lane for stay on North End Rd, going to Fulham.

The canvasser, wrote all this down, pointed out that Cromwell Rd wasn't in the councils authority, I asked about North End Rd, he said he'd look into it. (Though he's not from the area, as evidenced by his lack of knowledge of the boundaries & demographics of the constituency)

He asks do we know who we intend to vote for, I tell him that the household intends to vote for Shaun Bailey (Tory), it seems nice & genuine, his literature is sharp & speaks of hope and we are all thoroughly unimpressed with the Labour literature (unprofessional looking & very negative), but we are wavering on the Tories in general as they are showing overly conservative tendencies. I point out then that I'm a Libertarian not a strict Conservative and I have reservations about the party in general, but given the alternatives and since its a local election fist not national, I would probably vote for his guy too.

I wish, I had asked for assurances that Shaun Bailey if elected as part of a Tory majority would support Cameron as the PM over a putsch to install a more conservative PM. This is a genuine concern, that others have raised that the Tories are using Cameron to win the election and will then oust him.

I don't want to vote for a xenophobic anti Europe Tory government, but the compassionate conservative one being spouted by Cameron.
